Saylor Hints at Bitcoin Buy as Strategy’s BTC Holdings Cross $71B

-

Michael Saylor hinted at a new Bitcoin purchase on July 20. The Strategy co-founder shared the signal shortly after the company expanded its Bitcoin stash.

On July 14, Strategy bought 4,225 BTC for $472.5 million. The purchase brought the total Strategy Bitcoin holdings to 601,550 BTC.

According to data from SaylorTracker, the stash is now worth over $71.4 billion.

Strategy is up 66.5% on its Bitcoin investment. The unrealized profit stands above $28.5 billion. The company remains the largest public holder of Bitcoin. Strategy BTC stash updates are tracked closely by the market.

This recent buy follows a consistent accumulation pattern. Strategy has added Bitcoin regularly in 2025 as prices hit new highs. On July 20, Bitcoin traded at $116,620.

Strategy Stock Rally Follows Crypto Market Growth

Strategy’s stock price has climbed alongside rising Bitcoin prices. Over the last month, the Strategy stock rally added 21.52%. The company’s market value now stands at $118 billion.

In December 2024, Strategy joined the Nasdaq 100 index. The move drew attention from institutions seeking Bitcoin exposure through equities. Many large investors cannot buy BTC directly due to policy rules.

The crypto market crossed $4 trillion in total value this July. The Bitcoin market cap also reached new highs, supporting the broader stock rally. The Strategy BTC stash now plays a bigger role in institutional Bitcoin exposure.

The company’s holdings and market cap rise show how Strategy benefits from Bitcoin price action. Each BTC purchase boosts the company’s balance sheet and attracts more institutional interest.

Institutional Bitcoin Exposure Through Strategy Shares

Large asset managers have added Strategy shares to gain Bitcoin exposure. Due to internal restrictions, some investment funds cannot hold digital assets directly.

Macro analyst Lyn Alden explained this trend.

“There are stock funds where the portfolio manager can only buy stocks. He or she cannot buy bonds, ETFs, or commodities,”

Alden said.

In these cases, companies like Strategy offer a legal path for Bitcoin market access. Institutional Bitcoin exposure continues to grow through indirect methods.

Vanguard, one of the largest investment firms, holds 20 million Strategy shares. That equals 8% of the company’s outstanding stock. Vanguard does not offer Bitcoin directly to clients but uses equities like Strategy to get exposure.

This method allows institutions to meet demand for Bitcoin access without holding crypto themselves. Strategy Bitcoin holdings make its shares a preferred asset in such portfolios.

Bitcoin Demand Fueled by ETFs, Exchanges, and Strategy

Strategy BTC stash increases are not the only signal of rising demand. Exchange-traded funds and crypto exchanges are also seeing higher volumes in 2025.

ETFs have added more BTC since early Q2. At the same time, trading activity on major exchanges has increased. These moves reflect rising interest from both retail and institutional buyers.

Strategy Bitcoin holdings serve as a benchmark for this trend. The company’s buying activity shows how corporate players interact with the crypto market.

As the total Bitcoin market cap continues to grow, treasury companies like Strategy remain a central part of the ecosystem.

Strategy stock rally data supports this connection. The firm’s stock and BTC purchases are now tied closely to the broader market performance.
