Uniswap’s founder thinks there’s a fight for DeFi’s soul

-

Hayden Adams, the boss behind Uniswap got opinions, and loud ones. He’s looking at the DeFi sector, and he’s not mincing words.

According to Adams, if you’re building DeFi directly on a Layer 1, Solana’s got the better cards.

Better roadmap, sharper crew, and a way of doing things that, frankly, makes the old guard look like they’re playing checkers while Solana’s playing chess.

Proof of work?

Now, for years, Ethereum’s been the kingpin, right? But lately, it’s been obsessed with this modular, rollup-heavy approach.

Layer-2s everywhere. Some people, let’s call them the critics, say these Layer-2s are like freeloaders, leeching off Ethereum’s main chain. Adams?

He’s not ready to toss out all that hard work, but he’s got doubts. “You wanna walk away from years of blood, sweat, and code, right at the finish line? For what?” he asks, eyebrow raised, like a guy who’s seen too many double-crosses.

He’s not against a Layer-1-centric future. But let’s be real, he knows it comes with big sacrifices.

It’s like trading your Cadillac for a gokart, sure, it’s nimble, and perfect for grabbing attention, but you’re giving up a lot of comfort.

Old guard

Meanwhile, over in the Ethereum camp, you got David Hoffman from Bankless waving the flag.

“Ethereum Layer 1 is for DeFi!” he shouts. He’s writing articles, some not even published yet, saying Ethereum’s the only place for serious builders, users, and assets. Perfect uptime, he claims.

No other chain can touch it. “L1 should serve everyone,” he insists, like a true believer at a family dinner, defending the old recipe.

Trendsetting

Uniswap itself is gearing up for a big move. Version 4 is coming in 2025, after missing last year’s deadline.

The team’s promising surprises, new features, and a “very pink year” ahead.

They’re rolling out innovations like “Hooks” for custom swaps, dynamic fees, and gas savings, stuff that could shake up the whole DEX game, allegedly.

Last time Uniswap made a big update, they changed how everyone did liquidity. This time? Who knows.

So, Solana’s making moves, Ethereum’s doubling down, and Uniswap’s playing both sides, keeping everyone guessing.

If you’re in the game, don’t blink. The next hand could change everything.
