Rainbow Six Siege Hit By Massive Hack As Ubisoft Pulls The Plug On Servers

-

Ubisoft shut down Rainbow Six Siege live services after a Rainbow Six Siege hack pushed 2 billion R6 Credits to players across the game.

The shutdown also paused the Siege marketplace shutdown while the team started account fixes and a R6 Credits rollback.

Players reported that the breach did not look limited to currency. Screenshots shared on social media suggested attackers accessed major online systems, including tools linked to player messaging and bans, while accounts also showed rare items.

The Rainbow Six Siege hack surfaced publicly on Dec. 27 through posts on X, and the team continued updates into Dec. 28. In one update, the team said,

“Siege and the Marketplace have been intentionally shut down while the team focuses on resolving the issue.”

Rainbow Six Siege Hack Sparks $13.33M Credit Value And An 11:00 AM UTC Rollback

The store math made the impact easy to measure. Ubisoft sells 15,000 R6 Credits for $99.99, so 2 billion credits equal about $13.33 million in store value.

After the Ubisoft server shutdown, the team set a cutoff for reversing transactions.

It said the R6 Credits rollback would cover activity since 11:00 AM UTC and would remove the extra credits and related purchases made after that time.

“A rollback is currently ongoing and afterwards, extensive quality control tests will be executed to ensure the integrity of accounts and effectiveness of changes,”

the team wrote.

“Please know that this matter is being handled with extreme care and therefore, timing cannot be guaranteed. We will provide another update as soon as we know more.”

Ubisoft Server Shutdown Continues As Rainbow6Game Starts A Soft Launch

While the rollback continued, the team moved toward a controlled return. It said it opened the game to a small number of players to run live tests during a soft launch.

“Opening the game to a small number of players only, while we complete live tests. More information on the rollback and full live relaunch to come,”

the team said in a Rainbow6Game X update.

The team also addressed player risk during the Rainbow Six Siege hack.

It said players will not face bans for spending credits received during the incident, even as the R6 Credits rollback reverses transactions and restores account integrity.
