Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

-

The mystery surrounding the identity of the creator of Bitcoin may soon be solved. HBO just released a trailer for its upcoming documentary titled “Money Electric,” which is set to air on October 8, on Monday next week.

This question has intrigued not only Bitcoin enthusiasts but also the media for many years.

The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto—whether it is one person or a group, and whether he is alive or deceased—remains a topic of great speculation.

Uncover Bitcoin’s creator?

HBO claims it may have discovered who Satoshi Nakamoto really is. On a decentralized prediction market where people can place bets on this topic too among others, there are sixteen different options.

Currently, Len Sassaman is leading the betting with a 53% chance of being identified as Satoshi according to the wagers placed.

Polymarket

Sassaman was an American technologist known for his work in cryptography. He served as a security architect and senior systems engineer for Anonymizer, a company focused on internet privacy.

Tragically, he passed away in 2011, which coincides with the time when Satoshi disappeared from the online world.

Running Bitcoin

For many years, crypto researchers also believed Hal Finney was the true creator of Bitcoin. Finney was an early contributor to the Bitcoin project and was the first person to receive a Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto.

Like Sassaman, Finney was an advocate for online privacy and discussed issues related to centralization in technology.

Finney lived in the same town as Satoshi Nakamoto for about ten years, which led some researchers to think he might be the creator, but Finney denied being Satoshi. He died in August 2014 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS.

His body was cryopreserved in hopes that future technology could bring him back to life.

We all are Satoshi

With just a few days left until HBO airs its documentary, many are hyped to see who they will name as the creator of Bitcoin.

There is also curiosity about whether the documentary will echo sentiments from the crypto community by stating that “We all are Satoshi”.
