Bitcoin developer Peter Todd goes into hiding after HBO documentary claims he’s Satoshi

-

Peter Todd is feeling the heat after an HBO documentary suggested he might be the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin. Spoiler alert: Todd says that’s a big fat no.

We’re all Satoshi

In his own words, Todd has refuted these claims, insisting that it’s pointless to even know who Satoshi is.

After all, Bitcoin has flourished just fine without revealing the founder’s true identity. “The film falsely identifies me as Satoshi,” he said, clearly frustrated.

Todd didn’t hold back when criticizing the documentary’s filmmaker for this allegation. He believes it was a cheap trick to grab attention for the film.

“It’s just a way to market his documentary,” he lamented. He feels like he’s been thrown into the public eye against his will, despite repeatedly denying that he is the Bitcoin mastermind.

He also pointed out that during Bitcoin’s early days, he was busy juggling school and work, so there’s no way he could have been Satoshi.

Todd claimed he had no idea what the documentary was really about until it aired, which must have been quite a surprise!

Three year investigation, and we got some public forum posts…

The HBO documentary, titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” aired on October 8 and claimed to finally reveal Satoshi’s identity after a three-year investigation by filmmaker Cullen Hoback.

The film boldly presented so-called evidence (indirect, and also weak af) pointing to Todd as the creator of Bitcoin—a claim he continues to vehemently deny.

After the documentary aired, Todd decided it was best to go into hiding. He felt that his safety was at risk due to the film’s portrayal of him.

In an interview, he mentioned receiving countless emails from people asking for money, some even sending up to 25 messages about loan repayments!

We think Todd now understands why Satoshi has chosen to remain anonymous all these years. With all this harassment and attention, who could blame him?

The search for Satoshi continues

With Todd firmly stating he isn’t the Bitcoin founder, the quest for Satoshi’s identity continues.

Over the years, many people have been rumored to be behind Bitcoin, often leading to unwanted scrutiny and invasion of their privacy.
