Crypto chaos alert, Binance founder CZ sounds the memecoin scam siren

-

Once upon a crypto time, the sector known as the memecoin realm lured in hopeful cowboys and seasoned traders alike.

But just as they settled into the rodeo, Binance’s big boss, Changpeng Zhao, or simply CZ, the fearless leader, raised his voice over the chaos, warning of a tsunami of scams riding the growing memecoin wave.

Draining wallets

The story kicks off with an audacious hack, the official X account of BNB Chain, boasting nearly four million followers, was hijacked by shadowy villains.

These cyber bandits weren’t after bounties, they propagated fake token drops and sneaky wallet-stealing phishing traps disguised as legit Wallet Connect prompts.

One wrong click, and your precious crypto vanishes like a mirage in the desert.

Enter the blockchain detectives of SlowMist. Their sharp-eyed researcher, 23pds, uncovered the cunning trick, a phishing website almost identical to BNB Chain’s real home, differing by a single, malicious character.

This digital doppelganger led straight to the notorious Inferno Drainer gang, infamous since 2022 for draining wallets with large-scale scams.

Trojan horses of doom

CZ didn’t waste time. His Binance security posse teamed up with X’s gatekeepers to lock down the compromised account and exorcise the phishing links.

“The BNBCHAIN account is compromised. Do NOT connect your wallet,” CZ tweeted, channeling the prophetic mantra of SAFU, aka Secure Asset Fund for Users, and also a meme born from a typo.

A reminder that even verified accounts can be Trojan horses of doom. The plot thickens with a cavalcade of crypto-themed account hijackings in 2025.

Pump.fun’s X account was snatched to push fake governance tokens, and PancakeSwap’s Chinese account moonlighted to sell “Sir Pancake,” a bogus memecoin racking nearly $20 million in fake trade volume.

Phishing attacks

Political figures and institutions haven’t escaped this cyber plague either. Ghana’s ex-president, John Mahama, found his X account pimping fake Solana token Solanafrica.

UK minister Lucy Powell’s profile played crypto mischief too. Even big ballers like Andreessen Horowitz and Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña got their Twitter fingers hacked to promote counterfeit tokens and bogus Bitcoin legal tender announcements.

The lesson here is simple, in a memecoin madhouse, trust is the first casualty.

Wallet security and vigilance are your only armor against this relentless wave of phishing attacks exploiting brand trust and verified badges.

CZ’s warning isn’t paranoia. It’s real. It’s a rallying cry for every crypto explorer out there to keep their digital treasure safe. Your wallet’s security isn’t just a line item. Do not neglect it!
